The Washington Post has decided to publish an opinion piece by Yemen’s Houthi militia Mohammed Ali al-Houthi. That decision, however has triggered fierce criticism on Twitter. Here are few examples:
Opinion | Houthi leader: We want peace for Yemen, but Saudi airstrikes must stop https://t.co/5MgTgM1ZGE
— The Washington Post (@washingtonpost) November 9, 2018
Mohamed Al-Houthi (and Houthis) lock up over 100s of journalists, torture and kill them in Yemeni jail cells. See here https://t.co/HyTa0m7CGW, here https://t.co/TyqwDkLgK4 and https://t.co/AdFCjdl8KO
It is a shame on @washingtonpost to give him a platform. #Yemen

The @washingtonpost gave a platform to a Houthi leader who runs a militia group that recruits thousands of children to military by force, kidnaps/tortures and kills journalists in #Yemen and silences media. #ShameOnWP Houthi kidnapping our journalists 👇🏼 pic.twitter.com/DDQIrWbmNK

Unfortunately, the @washingtonpost, has stooped to the lowest level of journalism and completely disregarded 100s of Yemeni journalists locked, kidpanned, tortured and killed by Houthi militias. As a gift, they allowed 1 of their leaders to write an op-Ed to push their agenda.

Yes. She can no longer live in Yemen thanks to the Houthis that you are trying to promote as peace advocates and acting in self defense. You should be ashamed of yourself @washingtonpost #Yemen https://t.co/ptRXwXml4y
— Nadwa Dawsari (@Ndawsari) November 10, 2018
I don’t know if I should be furious or if I should laugh hard. Houthi leader whose group forcibly disappeared & tortured dozens of journalist, some to death, is using Khashoggis murder to gain Intl sympathy to his brutal group. Thanks to the WP! https://t.co/RfUbAeCZOd
— Nadwa Dawsari (@Ndawsari) November 9, 2018
Warlord and top war #Houthi terrorist was just given a voice in US media talking about peace while holding the entire population hostage. The man is responsible for OVER 7000 deaths, siege of #Taiz, and the killing and brutal torture of #Yemenis. WAKE UP. https://t.co/MpYjQ33HTR
— Fatima Alasrar (@YemeniFatima) November 9, 2018
#Houthis threatened journalist @HindAleryani and her daughter. She fled to #Sweden after being intimidated in #Turkey by #Houthi trolls, the same ones whom you published propaganda for in the paper. https://t.co/DjHprLw7Ti
— Fatima Alasrar (@YemeniFatima) November 10, 2018
Publishing an op-ed by a murderous warlord is never a good look, @washingtonpost. The way to make up for publishing Saudi & UAE propaganda on the op-ed page is to stop doing it, not to publish Houthi propaganda afterward. And no, we're not tweeting the link.
— Yemen Peace Project (@YemenPeaceNews) November 9, 2018
Let's not forget #Houthi slogan is "God is great, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curses on the Jews, Victory to Islam". Houthis torture, imprison & kill critics (including journalists). @washingtonpost providing them a platform without acknowledging this is unacceptable. https://t.co/umAE6fIEGg
— Kayla Elias (@kayla_elias) November 9, 2018
@KarenAttiah My father @alguneid, a #Taiz physician and human rights activist in #Yemen, was kidnapped and locked in #Houthi prisons for 300 days. It is a miracle that we have him with us today. Your reporting @washingtonpost is clearly ill informed. Please withdraw this article. https://t.co/ViPRXG0vm3
— Nagwan Al-Guneid (@Nalguneid) November 9, 2018
Who imagined to see a war-criminal like Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi faking peace language in the @washingtonpost!!
Iran’s proxy terrorist are now finding ways into the American press. What a shame!!
True Peace can only be achieved by disarming Houthi militias & restoring legitimacy.— Khaled Alyemany (@KhaledAlyemany) November 9, 2018
I did not think I'd see the day when Mohammed Ali al-Houthi had an op-ed in the Washington Post…https://t.co/OBVVHUyXUB
— Peter Salisbury (@peterjsalisbury) November 9, 2018
Yes, you’re right. And you should also feel sickened and shocked by what the Houthis are doing to journalists in Yemen instead of offering them space on your op-ed pages to spread their lies. Two wrongs don’t make a right. https://t.co/eCwcKeNUj7

1. Left out of Mohammed al-Houthi's @washingtonpost piece:
Houthi use of landmines–antipersonnel and other types indiscriminately.
Houthi arbitrary detention, disappearance, torture and hostage-taking.
Recruitment of kids.
The list goes on. https://t.co/EQZlF6POry

This is a bad look for the @washingtonpost, letting a brutal, authoritarian warlord write an op-ed full of lies. The Houthis have killed plenty of journalists. They have no standing to talk about @JKhashoggi. https://t.co/PxenVpwX3W
— Gregg Carlstrom (@glcarlstrom) November 10, 2018
What a shock to see this on the Washington Post, Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi is literally responsible for the death of tens of journalists
His prisons are full of writers & academics
He personally shut down media outlets in #Sanaa#Yemenhttps://t.co/GEjo0HzFbW— Baraa Shiban (@BShtwtr) November 9, 2018
How can the @washingtonpost allow a Houthi that kills thousands of #Yemen-is, and silences Journalists by killing them, to write an Op-Ed? Is that respectful to journalist rights? Yemeni journalists don’t count to WP.
We are not tools to push your agenda. #ShameOnWP pic.twitter.com/QkwQCC57AW

The slogan of the Houthis literally contains the words: "Death to America" and "Curse the Jews". They imprison, torture, and kill journalists. Their leader shouldn't be given a platform on the esteemed @washingtonpost. https://t.co/dMDoiSpQi2

Users on Twitter were able to unearth past photos and videos of Mohammed Ali al-#Houthi, the controversial Yemeni militant leader who published an op-ed piece on the #WashingtonPost, showing him with his gun as he conducted televised interviews.https://t.co/9BSSZE6j7h

The 'Washington Post' slammed for running antisemitic Houthi rebel leader, whose movement's motto not only targets Jews but also US and Israel; many critiqued the paper's decision, although some said we need to hear this voice

It is one thing to demand Justice for #Khashoggi; it is another to provide a platform for a Militia leader who is responsible for atrocities in #Yemen—-just because he is anti-#SaudiArabia
Shame on the WP. This is a step too far! https://t.co/FSS2SzaNak— Nervana Mahmoud (@Nervana_1) November 9, 2018
Amazing how the @washingtonpost is still defiant, ignoring all voices, many anti-#SaudiArabia, critical of its decision to offer a platform for #Yemen’s #Houthi leader spreading his outright lies. No reply; no apology.
Just amazing!— Nervana Mahmoud (@Nervana_1) November 10, 2018
Sept 20-2018:
Jamal #Khashoggi writes on Twitter about the anniversary of “#Yemen Nakba- Catastrophe” when #Houthis ruthlessly seized #Sanaa.
Did the @washingtonpost sense any irony here? https://t.co/1a02nAxMZR— Nervana Mahmoud (@Nervana_1) November 10, 2018
